PEROVSKITE SENSORS FOR SMART FIRE SYSTEMS
Conventional smoke and heat detectors trip late — after a fire has already developed. Smart fire systems need earlier warning: precursor gases (CO, NO₂, volatile organic compounds) and flame radiation.
Halide perovskites ABX₃ deliver chemiresistive and photodetector response at room temperature — unlike metal-oxide sensors that require 200–400 °C. The track draws on the thin-film competence of IPCE RAS. Smart fire systems are built in cooperation with SJ 三江, VSAIL 福赛尔 and Ningbo (Siterwell 赛特威尔).
CHINA FIRE-SYSTEM MANUFACTURERS
Perovskite sensors are built into smart fire systems together with leading Chinese OEMs: SJ, VSAIL and Ningbo.
A smart fire-sensor node: perovskite film, gas and optical channels
RESEARCH TRACKS
Chemiresistive gas sensors
A perovskite film changes resistance on adsorption of CO, NO₂, NH₃ and volatile organics — products of smouldering and early combustion. Sensitivity in the ppb–ppm range at room temperature; response before visible smoke appears.
Flame photodetectors
The broad spectral response of halide perovskites (UV — visible — near-IR) registers flame radiation. Self-powered nodes are possible via the photovoltaic effect — no external bias.
Multi-sensor fusion architecture
Gas, optics and temperature in a single thin-film node. Joint signal processing cuts false alarms (steam, dust, cooking) and distinguishes smouldering from open flame — a requirement of smart addressable systems.
IoT integration and scale-up
Solution coating (slot-die, inkjet) and low power draw enable dense sensor networks. Series production with SJ, VSAIL and Ningbo: certified fire panels, addressable loops, CCC / LPCB. Metrology — SMRDI Group.
